About Past the Map

Go Beyond the Destination.

Past the Map is a journal of travel, history, culture, and storytelling. We explore the layers that give a place meaning: its memories, its living traditions, its landscapes, and the people who call it home.

Our curiosity begins where a simple itinerary ends. We look for context, thoughtful observation, and stories that invite a closer look.

What you will find here

Destination stories, explorations of history and heritage, cultural encounters, photographic essays, and quieter journeys through overlooked places.

Our editorial voices

Clara Arden, Ethan Cole, Sofia Moretti, Maya Brooks and Lucas Bennett are fictional editorial characters created to explore five perspectives on travel. Their backgrounds and countries are parts of their character identities; they are not presented as real people or professional credentials. Their portraits and our masthead imagery are AI-generated.

Stories grounded in sources

Our destination guides draw on the official heritage and visitor sources linked in each article. They do not claim first-hand journeys by these characters. The photographs used in our destination articles are real images published under the open licenses credited beside them.
