Our approach
Past the Map looks at travel through history, culture, photography and local life. We aim to explain a place clearly, with enough context to help readers make thoughtful choices.
Sources and practical details
Our destination features link to relevant heritage organisations, museums, tourism bodies or other primary sources. Opening hours, transport, entry rules and prices can change: check the linked official service before travelling. We distinguish a documented fact from an editorial interpretation.
Who writes our stories
Clara, Ethan, Sofia, Maya and Lucas are fictional editorial voices, with AI-generated portraits. They are not real travellers or independently verified specialists. Their features are produced with AI assistance using published sources; the bylines describe an editorial perspective rather than a claim of firsthand travel. Real contributors will publish under their own names, with biographies that reflect their actual experience.
Writing and originality
We value precise observations, useful context and clear language. We do not present invented visits, conversations, quotations or professional qualifications as real. Contributor submissions should be original and identify sources, personal experience and any relevant commercial relationship.
Photographs and image rights
Destination photographs in our articles are real photographs. We keep source and licence records, and display attribution where the licence requires it. Generated artwork is used for branding and fictional character portraits. An image is illustrative of the place shown, rather than evidence that a bylined character took it.
